South Africa's first black President Nelson Mandela is being treated
for a lung infection. This is the first time officials have revealed
why Mr Mandela, 94, was rushed to a military hospital in the capital,
Pretoria, on Saturday. Tests showed a "recurrence of a previous lung
infection". Mr Mandela is responding to his treatment, presidential
spokesman Mac Maharaj said to news men. We wish him a fast recovery.
He was the first ever prisident to be elected in a fully representative election in South Africa.
Before he became president, he had been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment (in 1962). He was later released on the 11 february 1990.He helped South Africa gain indipendence in 1994.
